Profile Precision Extrusions cuts over 900,000 pieces of aluminum extrusions & tubing every single month. We cut parts as long as 288.00” and as short as 0.219”. Customers prefer to have us cut their extrusions to length for a variety of different reasons:
- Orders are delivered ‘ready-to-use’ on their production line
- Customers save money by reducing scrap in their operations
- Customers save money by reducing shipping costs from Profile
- Parts shorter than ~100” can be shipped FedEx or UPS if expedited delivery is required
- Profile uses (4) saws for cutting our extrusion and aluminum tube orders.
- (1) Press Saw
- (1) Rough Cut Saw
- (2) Soco precision cutting saws
Our press saw is located at the far end of our extrusion press cooling table. After the aluminum is extruded, cooled and stretched it is cut. The press saw generally cuts parts to between 60” – 288” long. If the customer has ordered mill finish parts, their order will then be artificially aged and send to our packaging department for shipment.
If the customer needs pieces shorter than 60”, the press saw will cut the extrusions to a preliminary length of ~144” and then sends the aluminum extrusions to our rough cut or Soco saw to be cut to their final length.
Our Soco precision saws have the capability to hold cut tolerances as precise as ±.005”. In general, the more precise the tolerance required the more expensive it is to cut the parts. Tight tolerances may require us to cut only 1 piece at a time, which may be costly. A more generous tolerance range may allow us to cut up to 20 pieces at a time, reducing the cost of cutting parts for an order.
Many of the parts we cut are vibratory deburred to remove sharp edges. We’ll discuss vibratory deburring in a future blog. If you’d like to know more, follow this link:
