Profile Precision Extrusions has the opportunity to review hundreds of aluminum extrusion and tubing designs each month. Of those, we offer pricing on around 75 of them. Most of the ones we review are too large for us to produce. For those we can’t quote, we try to refer the customer to 1-2 other extrusion companies we think might have the right equipment for the project. The time it takes us to quote an aluminum extrusion design is dependent upon the complexity of design and the amount of post extrusion work and details we are provided initially. Our goal for simple designs is to respond to the RFQ and complete a quote within 24 hours, and 72 hours for complex extrusions or tubing.
Designs have been submitted in all kinds of formats. People have walked in the front door with an extruded aluminum tube or shape sketched out on bar napkin. Others have brought in a physical sample or 3D printed prototype. To make the process move as quickly as possible and to ensure that all of your needs are met, please consider including the following in your RFQ:
- A dimensioned print of your aluminum extrusion showing:
- Critical dimensions & tolerances
- Aluminum alloy & temper
- Cut length(s)
- Cosmetically important or exposed surfaces
- For you engineering types, we use Solidworks and can open a variety of file types. We most commonly see igs, dxf & dwg.
- Please also include a pdf with your electronic file.
- Fabrication print
- Specification for anodize, chem film or powder coat (if required)
- Number of parts to quote
- Packaging requirements if known
- The end use of your aluminum extrusion or tube
