Employee Spotlight; Andy Gomez

Meet Andy Gomez, our Production Planner and oldest employee. Well maybe not the oldest employee, but Andy does have the distinction of being Profile Precision Extrusions longest-tenured employee after starting with us in 2000! During his 20 years, he has seen Profile grow from 15 employees to 50, relocate twice, add two extrusion presses, and he has planned the production of millions of pounds of aluminum extrusions and tubing. Prior to planning all of our production, Andy was a press operator, medical inspection supervisor, and extrusion press supervisor. Learn more about Andy in this Employee Spotlight.

Employee Spotlight; Andy Gomez

Andy, tell us a little about your background.

I was born at Maryvale hospital here in Phoenix and attended Trevor Brown High School. My favorite class my senior year was Introduction to Resort Occupations. We learned about all the aspects of running a vacation resort through hands-on experience. After high school I worked at Dolphin, casting aluminum and steel for the aerospace and recreation industries. I left Dolphin after three years and went to work for Vinyl Tech, a PVC Extrusion company. We produced water pipes for homes and offices.

What is a typical day like for you?

My day is usually very interesting, and no two are the same. In addition to planning each order, I have to balance the workloads for our two extrusion presses, three precision saws, and various other pieces of production equipment. I also help our production supervisors and quality inspectors interpret work order instructions and notes on customer prints. I’m also responsible for planning and ordering all of our raw materials.

What do you like best about your job and working at PPE?

What I like best about my job is helping others here at PPE.  I am very happy that Profile has continued to grow over the past ten years and we’ve been able to hire more employees.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?

Two customer projects stand out, Conmed and Arthrocare. Both manufacture disposable medical devices. One for gallbladder surgery and  the other for rotator cuff repair surgery. Both entail multiple manufacturing and inspection steps. They require a lot of attention to detail.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?

I am a grandpa to three grandchildren. Their ages are six, four, and two years old.

What do you enjoy doing on your days off?

I enjoy spending time with my three wonderful grandchildren.

What will be the first restaurant you will visit once the COVID-19 restrictions have ended?

Rudy’s BBQ. I’m going to order a brisket sandwich with potato salad. (Yum, we hear you Andy!)

What are you most looking forward to in our new factory?

Continuing to grow and hiring new people.
